Unfortunately, we did not have access to wireless internet while we were in London. We just got to our hostel in Edinburgh and are about to have a big breakfast in a quaint Scottish pub!!
Backtracking...
Day 1
The flight over to London was good. I slept the whole way, and Zach watched several movies. We were both exhausted when we got to the city, but we toughed it out and made our way to the London Eye... just as soon as a big storm came pouring down! We got soaked--the wind and rain were terrible. Zach was miserable, and I got lots of funny pictures. :)
We got sandwiches for lunch and had a picnic, and we went to the market to get our supper (chicken broth to share, and more sandwiches).
Day 2:
We did the New Europe tour in the morning... got to see the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace (where the Queen was this day!). Saw some other incredible sights, also! Our tour guide, David, was a rockstar and invited us to his show (which was last night, and we didn't make it). We had chicken and sweet corn sandwiches from the market, and we had another picnic right outside the "tube" station.
Next, we went to the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels... amazing! I loved the jewelry and dresses; Zach loved the armor. Perfect. When we got out of the tower, we had an awkward hour before our "Grim Reaper" tour, so we sat down next to the pigeons and had the so-very-London and greasy Fish and Chips!! And chips=french fries. :) Other than that, we've been eating pretty healthy, Mom. :)
David did the Grim Reaper tour, as well. We didn't enjoy it as much.... too much walking and not as interesting. Although, we did learn some crazy stories about Jack the Ripper and his murder victims.
Day 3:
My favorite day... a fairy tale! We hopped on the train out to Windsor Castle. Everything was absolutely fabulous. We walked through Queen Mary's Dolls' House--blew my mind. Everything was perfectly to scale (even the dining ware was pure silver) and so intricate. We toured the State Apartments and saw all the rooms where the Queen holds all of her important meetings and such. We saw all of the Henry VIII 500th Anniversary stuff... Zach was pretty impressed with that. We went in St. George's Chapel and saw King Henry VIII's remains.
The whole town of Windsor looks just like a storybook. We walked around the little village for a while and got our wonderful lunch from "Brown Bag Lunches," and paused for another picnic right outside the CASTLE... ahh!
Stopped by Tesco on the way home, once again, for our favorite chicken broth soup and juice (which caused a major problem... Zach wanted the fake sugar water juice for 71P and I preferred the REAL juice made from real, handpicked fruit for 181P). He loved the real juice... and tasted the difference. ha!
Day 4--today!!
Our day started at 2:41am. :(
We had to leave our hostel by 3:15 to be to the tube station in plenty of time to get to Luton Airport by train. Our flights out to Edinburgh were at 7:00am, but were about 40 minutes delayed. Zach slept the whole way, so he is pretty energized, and I'd love to go crash at the hostel. Perhaps "Biddy's Big Breakfast" will be just what I need...
Zach is now trying to talk me into trying this terrible-looking mystery food on my plate. I'll let you all know how that goes.... :)
In closing, we have met so many wonderful people in the hostels and gotten several emails and such. The trip has been dreamy so far--except the fact that I left our notebook with all our flight and hostel confirmations at the Edinburgh airport earlier this morning... which is the next order of business.
Love you all so much... we will upload pictures soon!!
xoxoxo
